I’m The Temple Of The Holy Spirit

The person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. Shun immorality and all sexual looseness (flee from impurity in thought, word or deed). Any other sin which a man commits is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received (as a gift) from God? You are not your own. You were bought with a price (purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own). So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. (1 Corinthians 6: 17-19)

Would you even think of watching your favorite television show in church? And concerning the book or magazine on your nightstand, would you read it in church?

Would you gossip about your neighbor in front of the congregation during a church service? Would you yell at your children or spouse, or slap them in church?

Most people would answer that they wouldn’t even consider some of those things. But whatever we do, whether in a church building or not, we are doing it in and to the Temple of the Holy Spirit. You are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. He is there with you all of the time, whatever you are doing; whatever you are thinking; whatever you are saying.

What are you saying about yourself? Do you tell yourself that you are dumb and will never amount to much? Do you tell yourself that you are ugly? Do you tell yourself that the things you see about yourself are just this way and always will be? How do you treat your body? Do you keep your spirit clean and tuned to the Holy Spirit?

God has chosen you for His home; His Temple. Who are you to insult His choice? Do you think He may know something you don’t? He paid a great price for you to become His Temple. Father God gave His Son to be separated from him for a season in order that Jesus could come as a man, live here on earth, build relationships, and die for you, so that you could be forgiven of your sin. Jesus had to leave heaven, and be willing to come as a man, knowing the whole time that he would be scorned, beaten, betrayed, and killed. Still He did this so that He would be able to have you as a friend and brother, and so that the Holy Spirit could dwell within you. He chose you, ~spirit, soul and body~ to be His home. You are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

How do you take care of the Temple? How do you dress it? How do you respect it? Do you pollute it or keep it clean? Do you take care of it according to your standards or His? If you are His home, who should get to decide on the standards? In your home, does the home determine your standards or do you determine how it should be?

If you have asked Christ into your heart, then you have invited Him to live there. You are His Home, His Temple. Ask Him what He wants your standard to be, and what it will take to get there. Then be willing to allow Him to remodel as necessary.
